This is such an unusual find. Lava carvings (especially cameos) became popular in the early 19th century when wealthy Europeans embarked on the Grand Tour of Europe and they served as mementoes. 


This is a wonderful teeny lava carving of a pastoral scene. It has a mahogany frame which is very timeworn. It looks wonderful placed on a little easel.
