An exquisite oil on canvas signed by artist Florence Saltmer and dated 1887. It depicts a hay field with hens in the foreground and horses and farmers in the background. Beautiful brushstrokes with gentle, muted ochre hues and a vast blue sky. You can feel the textures and almost hear the sounds of this peaceful country scene. The crackled effect and timeworn oil paint are so beautiful and add to this being a very special piece. It has one little dent in the top right. A peaceful rural idyll. It also has a lovely old gesso frame which is rustic and timeworn in sections. These is one little dent at the top right.
