I adore this exquisite handpainted black lacquer writing box, probably dating from the mid-1800s. The floral detail, slightly timeworn and faded is so beautiful. The box was probably used as a travel writing box. It is missing its key. It does have some wear and tear and parts of the paint fading which is commensurate with age but what a gorgeous piece.
