A wonderful carved oak box or chest, salvaged from a church and circa late 18th century or early 19th century.

It most likely would have been used to hold bibles or books. It does have some wear and tear and a repair to one of the feet, but given its age, it is in incredible condition. It makes a wonderful side table in a living room or bedroom and great for storage too.

The oak wood looks almost black as oak has a high tannin content which when exposed to moisture and oxygen, results in blackening.
