Painted on silk, this is an exquisite portrait of a young women dressed elegantly reading a book and is signed. I love the timeless elegance of silk painting which was very much encouraged at the time with the revival of handcrafts and as an alternative to embroidery for women. Chinese silk painting was also very much an influence in Victorian and Edwardian times. This is a very timeworn and delicate silk fragment and a very precious piece to display on an easel or even laid flat. You could have it framed too.
