A beautifully crafted late 19th century swing mirror featuring an elegant bamboo frame with brass detailing and an original hanging chain. The mirror pivots within its frame and reveals a beautifully decorated chinoiserie panel to the reverse, depicting cranes and figures in a gilt and black lacquer style. This design allows it to function both as a mirror and as a decorative wall panel when turned. I adore this unusual and eclectic piece and it reflects the Victorian era’s fascination with East Asian aesthetics and the popularity of bamboo furniture. The chinoisserie is timeworn with a little tear and the bamboo slightly rustic in parts but a very special and unique piece.
