I adore this delicate and feminine black lacquer paper mache folding wall sconce shelf. The chinoiserie detail of flowers and butterflies is so beautiful. It probably dates from the late 1800s. The bracket folds with teeny hinges and attaches to the folding shelf with a teeny metal hook. It does have some wear and tear and parts of the paint fading which is commensurate with age but what a special piece.
