This is a beautiful modernist oil painting depicting a female nude, created by the British artist Joanne Thomson (1935–2024). With an influence from the Slade School tradition, bold brushwork and a strong emphasis on form and composition. Circa 1980.
Joanne Thomson was a Surrey-based artist who worked for many years from her studio in Haslemere. She studied at Chelsea School of Art in the 1950s and exhibited widely throughout her career, including at the Mall Galleries, Women Artists of Westminster, and the New England Art Club.
