A beautiful pair of little Florentine bookends. I adore the splash of turquoise with the gold. I love Florentine pieces. It is a centuries-old tradition and often interprets the rich ornate detail of Renaissance decorative art pieces. The gold paint resembles gilding. Florentine gilt objects became popular in the late Victorian era and are even mentioned in Oscar Wilde’s “The Picture of Dorian Gray”. There are some scratches and flakes of paint coming off that are consistent with age.

STYLING TIPS
I love these bookends - glorious as a display on a sideboard to add colour but of course totally practical for books and serviettes.
