This pair of Rama and Shiva wayang golek wooden rod puppets were bought in Indonesia in 1994 and part of my personal collection. They reflect the rich storytelling traditions of Javanese performance art. Hand-carved and painted, the figures represent two central characters drawn from Hindu epic and mythology: Rama, the noble hero of the Ramayana, and Shiva, the powerful god of transformation and renewal.
Originally created for use in wayang golek theatre, these puppets also stand as striking sculptural objects. Their expressive faces, elaborate headdresses, and traditional costumes highlight the craftsmanship that define Indonesian puppet-making.
