Painted on silk, this is an exquisite portrait of a young women dressed elegantly in evening attire with a feather cape. The silk portrait is framed behind glass in a soft gold oval mount with a beautiful scalloped gilt metal and oak frame. I love the timeless elegance of silk painting which was very much encouraged at the time with the revival of handcrafts and as an alternative to embroidery for women. Chinese silk painting was also very much an influence in Victorian and Edwardian times.
