A beautiful atmospheric early 20th century oil on board by Fred Stubbings of a gentle river scene with a fisherman. It is not signed but was bought at auction as part of a collection of his paintings and is marked on the reverse. It has a simple modern wooden frame but this can be removed easily if you prefer the board on its own. The painting has a slight scratch at the bottom.
Fred Stubbings was an English painter active in the early to mid 20th century, known especially for landscapes, gardens, and countryside scenes, often inspired by southern England. He worked in oils and pastels and exhibited at major venues including the Royal Academy. His work reflects the influence of Impressionism, particularly in its interest in light, color, and outdoor subjects.
