An exquisite blue velvet jewellery box that is gently faded with age, which perfectly captures 19th century fascination with Chinoiserie and Anglo-Japanese design. This aesthetic is beautifully captured in the stylised silver mount and finial. It would have felt exotic and romantic and perhaps sat on a ladies dressing table storing precious jewellery and keepsakes. It is in timeworn condition with the velvet faded and worn in parts but it still has such an elegant feel to it and captures the mood of the time beautifully.
