Delicate in appearance but sturdily built, this late 19th-century trinket box is crafted from natural mother of pearl and brass. Originally a trinket box or for precious keepsakes, they were often called “Mermaids Purses”. The little mother of basket is a delight too. The purse is in good antique condition with fully functional hardware and the little basket has a slightly broken handle. A beautiful and romantic gift.
